Toronto (Ontario) – Le vice-président général canadien de l’AIM, Stan Pickthall, est heureux d’annoncer la nomination de Keith Aiken au poste de coordonnateur des transports canadien de l’AIM. M. Aiken remplace Carlos DaCosta, qui prendra sa retraite cet été.
« Nous avons procédé à un long processus d’examen pour remplacer Carlos », a expliqué M. Pickthall. « Le poste étant basé à Toronto, le candidat retenu devait donc être disposé à travailler depuis le bureau de l’AIM Canada à Toronto ».
« Nous recherchions un militant détenant une expertise dans le domaine des négociations, des griefs, des arbitrages et des relations avec les membres et les dirigeants à tous les niveaux de l’organisation. Il travaillera également en étroite collaboration avec les conseils exécutifs des sections locales, les représentants des employeurs et des agences extérieures, notamment les commissions de relation de travail et les associations de l’industrie. Compte tenu du mandat clair de l’AIM en matière de syndicalisation, le candidat devait également avoir fait ses preuves dans la syndicalisation de nouveaux membres au sein de l’AIM ».
Aiken a syndiqué deux groupes à Edmonton et à Calgary, réunissant 270 nouveaux membres dans le district en 2018. Puis, en 2019, il a négocié des premières conventions collectives novatrices pour les deux groupes.
« Keith sera un atout précieux pour le territoire canadien et l’AIM en Amérique du Nord, alors que nous continuons à nous développer et à représenter nos membres au cours des prochaines années », a déclaré M. Pickthall. « Joignez-vous à moi pour féliciter Keith alors qu’il entame les prochaines étapes de son parcours au sein de l’AIM ».
« Keith est un président général expérimenté du district 140 et nous sommes impatients de profiter de son expertise dans ce nouveau rôle », a déclaré Robert Martinez Jr., président de l’AIM internationale. « Le VPG Pickthall l’a fortement recommandé et, à mon avis, cette recommandation est bien méritée ».
Aiken, qui occupe présentement le poste de président général du district des transports 140 de l’AIM, entreraen fonction le 1er août 2019.

Toronto, ON – IAM Canadian General Vice President Stan Pickthall is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith Aiken as the new IAM Canadian Transportation Coordinator. Aiken replaces Carlos DaCosta who is retiring this summer.
“We engaged in a lengthy review process to find a replacement for Carlos,” explained Pickthall. “This is a Toronto-based position, so the successful applicant had to be willing to work out of our IAM Canada office in Toronto.”
“We required an activist who would bring expertise in negotiations, in grievance and arbitration, and in dealing with our membership and leadership at all levels of the organization. They will also work closely with Local Lodge Executive Boards, employer representatives, and outside agencies including Labour Boards and industry associations. In view of the IAM’s clear mandate respecting Organizing, we also sought a candidate who had a proven track record in organizing new members into the IAM.”
Aiken organized two groups in Edmonton and Calgary bringing 270 new members into the district in 2018 and then in 2019, negotiated ground breaking first agreements for both groups.

Aiken, currently a General Chairperson for IAM Transportation District Lodge 140, will assume his new duties August 1, 2019.
