Michel Richer assumera le rôle de Coordonnateur Québécois de l’AIM,(english version follows)

Le vice-président général Stan Pickthall a eu le plaisir de faire l’annonce que Michel Richer occupera bientôt le poste de Coordonnateur Québécois de l’AIM. Michel Richer remplace David Chartrand, qui a récemment été élu vice-président général de l’AIM au Canada. « J’ai été heureux de faire cette recommandation au président international Bob Martinez, et je suis absolument convaincu que Michel travaillera fort au nom de l’AIM. » A déclaré Pickthall.
Le président international Bob Martinez a eu le plaisir de nommer Richer: «Au nom du Conseil exécutif, nous reconnaissons et respectons l’environnement législatif unique de nos membres au Québec. Il était essentiel que les membres soient représentés par un coordonnateur québécois ayant une histoire et une expérience de travail dans ce milieu. Je sais que Michel continuera à apporter une contribution précieuse dans ce nouveau rôle. »
Membre depuis 40 ans, Richer a commencé sa carrière chez l’AIM en tant que préposé d’escale chez Air Canada en 1980, où il a travaillé dans diverses escales partout au Canada. Actif comme délégué syndical et membre du comité d’atelier au sein de la section locale 1751 à Montréal, il a été élu président général du District 140 en 2012. Il était responsable des griefs, des négociations et des arbitrages au nom des membres de la section locale et de l’ensemble du district.
Richer s’est joint au personnel de la Grande loge de l’AIM en 2016 à titre de représentant de la Grande loge. À ce titre, il a été responsable du recrutement de la région de l’Est du Canada et a dirigé de nombreuses campagnes de recrutement couronnées de succès. En tant que RGL, Michel a également élargi sa portée pour inclure le travail avec les recruteurs du District 11.
Parfaitement bilingue, il a assumé le rôle de formateur pour le Conseil des machinistes du Québec et a également dirigé de nombreuses séances de formation sur le leadership en français au Centre d’éducation Winpisinger au nom des membres francophones. Il a siégé à plusieurs comités de la Fédération du travail du Québec et est bien connu au sein de la communauté ouvrière du Québec.
Le nouveau vice-président général, David Chartrand, a appuyé avec enthousiasme l’annonce : « Michel est un véritable machiniste, dévoué aux membres. Il a toujours été disponible et prêt à soutenir ses confrères et consœurs à tous les niveaux et apporte une richesse d’expérience et de connaissances à ce poste. Je sais qu’il fera un excellent travail au service de nos membres à titre de coordonnateur Québécois. »
Michel Richer assume le rôle de coordonnateur Québécois à compter du 1er juillet 2021.

Michel Richer to Assume Role of Quebec Coordinator
“It has been my privilege to work with Michel Richer over recent years, and I know he will continue to be a valuable asset to IAM members, both in Quebec and across Canada.”
General Vice-President Stan Pickthall took pleasure in making the announcement that Michel Richer will soon assume the position of IAM Quebec Coordinator. Richer replaces David Chartrand, who was recently elected as the General Vice-President for IAM Canada. “I was pleased to make this recommendation to International President Bob Martinez, and I am absolutely confident Michel will work hard on behalf of the IAM.” Stated Pickthall.
International President Bob Martinez was pleased to make the appointment of Richer: “On behalf of the Executive Council, we recognize and respect the unique legislative environment for our membership in Quebec. It was crucial that the members there be represented by a Quebec Coordinator with history and experience working in that environment. I know Michel will continue to make a valued contribution in this new role.”
A 40-year member, Richer started his IAM career working as a Station Attendant with Air Canada in 1980, where he worked in various stations across Canada. Active as a shop steward and Shop Committee member within Local Lodge 1751 in Montreal, he was elected as District 140 General Chairperson in 2012. He was responsible for grievances, negotiations, and arbitrations on behalf of members both in the Local Lodge and across the District.
Richer joined the IAM staff at Grand Lodge in 2016 as a Grand Lodge Representative. In this role, he was the organizing lead for the Eastern region of Canada, and led many successful organizing campaigns. As a GLR, Michel also expanded his scope to include working with District 11 organizers.
Fluently bilingual, he assumed the role of Trainer for the Quebec Machinists Council and also led numerous French Leadership training sessions at the Winpisinger Education and Technology Centre on behalf of French-speaking members. He has worked on several Quebec Federation of Labour committees, and is well-known within the Quebec Labour community.
Incoming General Vice-President David Chartrand enthusiastically endorsed the announcement: “Michel is a true Machinist, dedicated to the membership. He has always been available and ready to support his Sisters and Brothers at all levels and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position. I know he will do a wonderful job servicing our members as the Quebec Coordinator.”
Michel Richer assumes the role of Quebec Coordinator commencing July 1, 2021.
