Après des décennies de mobilisation et de lutte menée par les membres, les activistes et les alliés de l’AIM Canada, le Canada a enfin établi un cadre pour un programme national d’assurance-médicaments à payeur unique. Le projet de loi C-64 constitue la première phase d’un programme qui prévoit l’accès universel à la contraception et aux médicaments contre le diabète.
Le Sénat a adopté le projet de loi en troisième lecture le 10 octobre, ouvrant ainsi la voie à la sanction royale le 11 octobre 2024. La loi est entrée en vigueur immédiatement.
Maintenant que le projet de loi est entré en vigueur, les provinces et les territoires doivent commencer à négocier des accords sur l’assurance-médicaments, y compris des détails sur le financement et la distribution. Ces négociations sont cruciales pour la mise en œuvre du plan, car le gouvernement fédéral doit finaliser les accords avec chaque province et territoire pour pouvoir aller de l’avant à l’échelle nationale.
